Genre: Sci-fi

I really liked reading ‘Martian Blood’, and I believe the reason why I enjoyed it was because it is evident that John Pahl put a lot of time and consideration into the story, such as research into astrological and scientific facts, and making the future that the novel is set in seem plausible and not over-reaching, overall making the narrative seem very realistic as to how it would happen if it were real life.

I also liked the differing perspectives of the characters, particularly Tom and Sophia when they were on separate planets as their lives contrasted so much, and this meant as a reader you can understand the full scope of the politics that goes on in the world Pahl has created, and again fleshes out the fictional world nicely.

The drama and action scenes were some of my favourite during the book as they were well-written and immersive and always left me with intense emotions, whether that was sadness, anger, or tension.

Although I don’t usually read sci-fi, I would definitely recommend ‘Martian Blood’ as I found it very easy to read and follow along with, and I think what also made it enjoyable was the themes it explored such as death, independence, love and many more, meaning that there are aspects to keep you hooked, even if you’re not the biggest fan of sci-fi.

Rating: * * * * *

This novel was sent to me to review as part of an ARC pool, however, I was not paid to do so and these are my own opinions and are unbiased and honest.
