Hi! Welcome to the library.

Hi there! Welcome to Lois’s Library, I’m Lois, and this is a blog for all of my writing; whether it’s features, book reviews, or the odd piece of creative writing (if I’m feeling brave!).

Just a little info about me: I’m a final year English literature undergrad, my interests are in 18th - 20th century literature (more specifically Victorian literature), and my goal is to become an editor for a major book publishing house.

As I’m heading into my final year of uni, I thought it would be worthwhile to create a space where I can write about the things I enjoy and that I’m passionate about. Scholarly writing can only bring you so much joy and fulfillment, and it’s important to have personal spaces for yourself, and this library will be mine.

Here’s some quick background on why I’ve set up this blog. I've been writing features for a student news site for a year now, but I want to explore topics and discussions that I am interested in. Over the summer I've been reviewing books as part of an ARC for a publishing house, and I've really enjoyed it so far and like the idea of my reviews helping people find their perfect book. Finally, in my second year of uni, I had two different creative writing assessments, and both were the highest performing assessments I have had so far, so I want to explore and develop this new-found skill.

There you have it, there’s a little info about me and why I set up Lois’s Library. I hope you stick around and enjoy the content, if you like you can subscribe, or if you have any suggestions for features or improvements you can drop me an email below.

Before you go, here are some bonus fun facts about me:

  • My favourite book genre growing up was fantasy, but now I love classics

  • I’m TERRIFIED of flying insects, especially butterflies

  • I have my tea milky not because I like it that way, but because I’m too impatient to let it cool down!

  • I played piano for 8 years

  • My least favourite subject in school was maths

  • And I'm obsessed with the colour pink (as you can probably tell!)

Happy reading!
